JOB DESCRIPTION
The Information Technology (IT) Division has an exciting opportunity for a University Student who will work directly with the Manager of Information Technology to shape the strategic direction for information technology within the City. From “Smarter Cities” to future IT Strategy; from Desktop support to Project Management; the successful candidate will work as part of a small IT Team providing a full range of IT services.
DUTIES
- Perform research, make recommendations and converse with experts on a wide range of Information Technology topics including leveraging Office 365 for new and innovative business processes.
- Write briefs, prepare business cases and perform presentations to the Senior Management team regarding recommendations on future IT strategy, products and approaches.
- Gather business requirements and document existing business processes. Determine the business processes used in other municipalities.
- Document Project Charters and perform project management tasks.
- Verify the inventories and versions of computer hardware and software in use. Document the business functions that the software and hardware fulfill. Make strategic recommendations for upgrades or replacements.
- Speak with vendors, and other technology experts in a wide gamut of areas including Disaster recovery, Networking, Cloud technology, IT Security, IT policies etc. to develop future direction.
- Work with other Business Units to optimize and automate business processes.
- Work as a member of the I.T. team to provide technical support to the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in, or a graduate of a University program with in one or more of the following fields of study: Computer Science, Information Management, Information Science, IT/Information Security, Computer Engineering Technology.
- Knowledge of research and forecasting techniques.
- Exceptional attention to detail, writing, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as a team.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 products such as Outlook, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint.
- Knowledge of basic network fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switching and routing.
- Familiarity with Cloud Based Software and Solutions.
- Must possess a valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide a current and acceptable Criminal Record Check, at their expense, prior to the employment commencement date.
Compensation for this position is $16.98 per hour for up to 35 hours per week, with flexibility based on the successful candidate’s availability.
